MARGATE CLOCK TOWER II

This iconic landmark from Margate is located by the end of the Marine Gardens in the seafront. It was designed by Mr Henry Arthur Cheers and it was built between the years 1887 and 1889 to celebrate the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria.

This is the northernmost of seven bays in Broadstairs and it features chalk columns carved by the sea on the walls of the cliffs. It is a popular tourist location and has served as location for several films and TV series such as BBC’s D- Day: The Last Heroes, Tamil action drama Thaandavam and Sky’s comedy Hunderby amongst others as well as music videos, tv commercials and photoshoots for many fashion editorials.

These iconic buildings were part of the Thanet landscape years, since 1962 to 2012 when they were demolished in a spectacular explosion that attracted lots of people.

THE OLD WEAVERS HOUSE

This is one of the few medieval buildings that survived the Baedecker Blitz during WWII in Canterbury and it’s supposed to have been built circa the year AD 1500, however, it is known that it was rebuilt in the middle of the 16th century. It is, after the cathedral, the most photographed landmark of the city and it is located by the Great Stour River, on the high street.

THE WELLINGTON ARCH

This triumphal arch is an iconic landmark in London, commissioned by King George IV to commemorate Britain’s victory on the Napoleonic Wars, it was built between 1826 and 1830 and is currently located on a traffic island between Hyde Park and Green Park, behind the Buckingham Palace gardens.
Until 1882 when the arch was moved from its original location it held a statue of the 1st Duke of Wellington, which was replaced in 1912 by The Quadriga.
